  1. I believe he is Right motivation does come from curiosity and the ambition to find out about any course. The Unites states system is corrupted in many ways in which they dont let students show there ability to be curious through just domesticating us like if we dont have any sense. Well thats where the system mistakes the new generations. It is not about domesticating us but it should be of teaching us that being curios or a wanderer is great to be and is a great way to become creativa and inventive. That is why i believe that the u.s is not even top. They say they will supply us with money and such, but, money? Its not money that makes us smart, its the way we are treated and teached what makes us more knowledgable. The experiences that makes us learn through a not such corrupted view. Money should not be everything. Like it says it is just tender paper with no value, the only thing that makes it have value is how much it is around the world. All Americans are good at is MONEY and WAR.

  2. Well we might still remain the top military power, but when it comes to economics im pretty sure theare are more prosperous countries than us. Especially now in these tough times with our economy. We are obviously notin top when it comes to our overall education level, like the article said, india and China are catching up to us because they have the motivation to do so. They younger generation is passed on the values of working hard and earning a good living. Unlike the young american generation that has a mentality of entitlement, we feel everything should be given to us. Motivation in students has regressed over the years, i believe due to the glorification of mediocrity through pop culture. Students have become more and more apathetic to striving for more in America, they feel they will just get by and that will suffice. We are not on top anymore, we may have been in our greater years when tough decisions brought the American people together, but now that our oppurti ities are stretching to the farther reaches of the earth we will soon be matched and even surpassed.

  3. I believe that he is right. We arent nuber one because we are all about material values and we dont care about being smart or exelling in the world. If the new generation would just get their act together and try to get motivated about school and being someone in the world America would be a better place. Like he said all we care about is money and war. But those things dont make us smarter or help us get the jobs we want. we have to do that and then maybe the United States of America might be number one.

  4. I Agree with him because we the United state are spending a lot of money and having trouble with it. We are still having trouble with the economics area. In the future we all have to help each other and the world instead of letting ourselves go and make more money.

  5. I believe that he is right, because the United States has been having a lot of trouble with the economic area, that’s why we are no longer the number one country in the world. I think there are better countries than us. For example India and China are more motivated with their education level and sooner or later their going to catch up to us, especially with the tough times that the economy is facing now in days.

  6. In mine and many of our perspectives above the USA has lost its place in among the greatest countries because of their sense of carelessness people here in the US expect too much out of our government ex: money, free college, work comp., and other stuff that has lead to the loss of responsibility. With that said motivation has a lot to do wit loss of responsibility parents should accustom their kids to do work for them selfs and encourage them to strive for more and better. I had know by family that our nation was built with poor education but it is not the education that is poor but the values inflicted by the parents to child. =P and thats all I can come up wit. . .

  7. I think he is right because now us the united states haven been having trouble with the economy and the money. we dont know how to handle that and we are not the number one in this country, there are other countries that are number one.

  8. I’m agree with him because the united states is all about material thinks like money, nuclear weapons, money, having more petroleum and of course more money. Is not about our education because I have to say that the education here in the United States is not good enough. They don’t teach you anymore how to fight for what you want or the values that you need to excel in society anymore. Now is about money and nuclear weapons …. Yes I think that the U.S is still being the number one in money and military power but we are poor in education and values

  9. With no more curiosity and no real harsh problems other than poverty there is no drive in most people to make the country better. The only factor driving anyone nowadays is making a little money for one self the "national epidemic of get-rich-quickism and something-for-nothingism." Thats what every one in this country shoots for. His statements show up on school funding as the U.S has raised funding for school but not much results to show for the fundings. Even if there is a capable teacher the student might not be willing to work. It doesn't matter how much they raise they're pay or how many more facilities they put into a school if the student isn't motivated he will not do the work.

  10. This article, in my opinion, correctly shows how and why we are dropping in the rankings of the top countries in the world. The government hand feeds the civilians rather than pushing what is right. We hardly face any problems like the ones that were faced in the great depression. We were once the only country with the best technology, but that is no longer true. Other countries are making advances and passing us in the rankings. As long as the American people are given options instead of directions, we will keep dropping in the ranks.

  11. I believe that Samuelson is right. Our generation isn't motivated the way it should be, and other countries are catching up to us because we have become lazy. This country is more about entertainment than academics, they're more motivated to finish a video game than to get good grades to get into a good college. He has a good point and I think that he's right, motivation is being lacked in this country.

  12. I agree with samuel. The reasons why were dropping on the list is because we're lazy and we expect for everything to be handed to us. We have set our priorities in the wrong way and need to get them straightened out. I strongly agree with Samuel about our motivation lacking in this country. Because of all the distractions we have we can not focus on what we should be focused on.

  13. I agree with samuel
I believe our generation is more motivated about other things than making the U.S a better place. Even if they dont notice our economy and the future of our world is falling apart. We should try and make our world a better place.

  14. Samuelson is right Our generation its not the way it was befor its more motivated we intend to push away our us instead of making it better the way it should be... us american are the lazy people we intend to lacked and our educathion es the lowest of the low si i agree with samual !!

  15. Our generation is definitely the reason for our downfall. The lack of motivation is almost everywhere I look. The saddest part is that most of our generation know we are the cause, and yet we ignore it. It is also true that we are no longer willing to sacrifice. When is the last time you heard of something being done without a little back bone. We expect things to come to us but that would only happen in a surreal realm.
